In 1994 Brian Dunn decided to combine his business acumen with his homebrewing hobby and opened the Great Divide brewery in downtown Denver, hoping not simply to create a booming business but to regenerate the area as well.

Opening in an abandoned dairy processing plant, Dunn quickly gained a reputation for making great beers. Within three years Great Divide was taking medals at the Great American Beer Festival, and it is now one of the most decorated microbreweries in America.

The brewery is constantly expanding and is still committed to supporting the local community.

But why does Dunn do it? Well, I like his mission statement: ‘I wanted to capture the spirit of Denver’s urban energy and Colorado’s awe-inspiring mountains, by having an unwavering commitment to both experimentation and quality.’
